Histoire(s) du cinéma: Omaggio a Carlo Varini
A Canton Ticino family goes up for the weekend to the house in the mountains where the father spent his childhood. The journey to the valley, suffered at intervals by his wife and children, is an obsessive ritual for Alfredo, repeated week after week as he searches for his past. Brought back to life by certain objects or chance circumstances, memories flood into the man’s mind: he sees himself first as a child, confronting the reality of rural life, then as an adolescent, helpless and unsure of himself, undergoing the experience of boarding school in another Canton. Even in the city, at work, the past invades the present: a missed promotion brings back memories of past humiliations.
