La Clé de la chambre à lessive (The Laundry Room)
In the apartment block at 85, rue de Genève in Lausanne, the key that opens the door to the “laundry room” represents far more than something simply used to access the communal laundry facilities. In this same building, whose occupants have been placed there by social services, the relationship between this symbol of a very Swiss respect for order and the residents is not entirely unproblematic. Traditionally located in the cellars, here this tiny room is situated in the entrance lobby, as the basement is reserved for prostitution. To ensure order and cleanliness, the owner has employed Claudina, a new “laundry woman”.
