Getting to Locarno
Traveling by train in Switzerland is comfortable and very reliable; thanks to the world's best rail system. Numerous international trains arrive in Ticino every hour from the gateways Basel und Zurich, stopping in Bellinzona (with direct connections to Locarno, on Lake Maggiore). Also the picturesque and romantic journey with the Centovalli Railway, links Ticino (from Locarno to Domodossola) directly with French Switzerland (Brig, Lausanne & Geneva).
Every night after the Piazza Grande screenings the last train to Lugano, Mendrisio and Chiasso leaves at 00.16 am, while regional trains between Locarno and Bellinzona leave at 00.16 am, 0.46 am and 01.19 am. On Saturday and Sunday the last trains to Bellinzona, Lugano, Mendrisio and Chiasso leave at 02.50 am. On this line all stations are provided with Park&Rail. The Swiss train company SBB will again be offering a bouquet of special offers for festival goers who take the train to Locarno. A modern and efficient motorway runs through all of Ticino (A2). The St. Gotthard-tunnel allows travelers to forgo climbing the majestic alpine passes. In season, you may also enjoy the picturesque ride over the Pass. For a more northeasterly direction, the San Bernardino highway (A13) begins just north of Bellinzona and links Ticino to Eastern Switzerland, Bavaria and Austria. Ticino is also easily accessible from French Switzerland.

The shuttle bus service guarantees regular connections between the center of Lugano and the airport from 08.00 am 6.30 pm (from 10.00 am to 6.30 pm Saturday and Sunday), scheduled to match the arrival and departure of air traffic. Reservation is required.
