Last but not least, the Open Doors Screenings section will curate a selection of shorts and feature-length films from the region to introduce its cinematographic landscape to the Festival public and professionals attending.

While several films supported in the previous editions are entering production, Open Doors extends its outreach to further assist industry players in South Asia by organizing seminars and workshops on the ground. These initiatives complement the Locarno program and are organized in collaboration with local festivals and professionals. Next destinations for November/December 2017 are Myanmar (Myanmar Script Fund, part of MEMORY! International Film Heritage Festival), Nepal (Ekadeshma International Film Festival), Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Since its inception, Open Doors has enjoyed the collaboration of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The initiative is organized closely with the Industry Office of Locarno Festival and enjoys support from numerous European bodies, including ARTE and the CNC (Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée).
