Youth hostels are ideal for groups, school trips, large families, as well as for those who want a different kind of vacation. One sleeps at budget prices, opting for simplicity, but the warm Ticinese welcome is still the same. Arrival and departure point for mountain hikes, very useful trekking stop, the alpine huts, eighty in all, offer lodging at high altitudes.

Bed&Budget: low cost accommodation in Ascona

For the second consecutive year, the Locarno Film Festival offers all young festival goers budget dormitory accommodation at the civil protection rest centre in Ascona, near Locarno.

The centre is just 30 minutes away from Locarno on foot and 15 by bus (regular line bus 1, via Pancaldi Mola Station).
It will be open from 3rd to 14th August. Price 28 CHF per night.
A discount of 5 Swiss francs will be given to UBS Maestro Card holders, as well as to people showing their reduced-price RailAway train ticket.

The centre has 48 beds divided into four rooms (2 for men and 2 for women). The rooms are ventilated but not air conditioned. The centre has showers and toilets. Blankets are available but it is recommended to bring a sleeping bag. It is reserved for young people aged 18 to 30 who have a daily or  student subscription to the Festival. Smoking, alcohol and the use of drugs are not permitted at the centre.

The centre will be closed every day from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm. For the rest of the time there will be a guard on duty.
Reservations can be made before the start of the Festival by sending an email to bedandbudget@pardo.ch, with name, gender, address, nationality, date of birth and contact. Throughout the Festival, those interested will also be able to book a bed, depending on availability, directly at the desk of the Lake Maggiore Tourist Office, situated in the Sopracenerina (Piazza Grande).
